‘Tussenkind’
‘In-between-child’
2023
Approximately mid 2022 Eliza-Sophie Sekrève began combining her photographic art with documentary videos and later on made her first ever short documentary ‘Tussenkind.’
The documentary ‘Tussenkind’ (In-between-child) tells the story of thirteen-year-old Lawrence, the youngest in a family of five children. He is creative, often cheerful and self-aware. Lawrence balances between being a child and an adolescent. He loves skating, cuddling with his mother and wants to become an artist. As such, he spends most of his time making drawings and small sculptures.
Lawrence prefers to sleep with his parents, even though he knows all too well that he is too old for that. He likes to visit his grandmother and calls her often. She is also the one who cuts his hair as short as possible, to make him look like Eminem.
His sister Eliza-Sophie, photographer and filmmaker, shows the bond she has with him. They dance together, do arm wrestling competitions and discuss all sorts of things. In one of these conversations, Eliza-Sophie calls him an ‘In-between-child’ Lawrence, strongly disagrees, he is not in between anything.
